The Museum of Fine Arts
The museum of fine arts was formed in 1960. The building of the museum is a monument of history and culture of the XVIII century. There are more than 10 thousand samples of paintings, graphics, sculpture and applied arts in the museum funds. The most valuable and unique part of the collection is the icon collection of Novgorod school and "North icon writings" of the XV-XIX cent., including such remarkable monuments as "Saint Vlasiy", "Ilya the prophet" XV cent., "George's snake wonder" XVI cent., signed icon of the XVII cent. foreman Ignatiy Panteleyev "Fiery ascent of Ilya the prophet" and others. The most remarkable works in the Russian art collection are the works by F.S. Rokotov, I.K. Aivazovskiy, I.N. Kramskoy, I.E. Repin, V.E. Makovskiy, I.I. Shishkin, V.D. Polenov, I.I. Levitan, K.A. Korovin, A.I. Benoir, A.A. Rylov and others.
The Soviet paintings of 30-s, 60-80-s are brightly presented in the Russian arts of the 20th century. These are the paintings by P.P. Konchalovskiy, A.A. Osmerkin , N.M. Chernyshev, V.V.Rozhdestvenskiy, A.F. Pakhomov, A.I. Vedernikov, N.N. Romadin, N.I. Andronov, E.E. Moiseyenko, V.I. Shamanov, A.I. Krestovskiy, V.I.Tyulenev and others; sculptures by S.T. Konenkov. The full creative legacy of P.F. Filonov's diciple - M.P. Tsybasov which is practically fully concentrated in the museum collection is especially interesting.
The wonderful graphic arts collection presents watercolor paintings, estamp graphics and illustrations by Russian, Baltic, Ukrainian and Caucasian artists.
The full picture of development of Karelian fine arts may be obtained through the collection of paintings, graphics and sculpture by V.N.Popov, S.K.Yunten, G.A.Stronk, L.F. and G.F.Lankinen, A.I.Avdyshev, F.E.Nieminen, E.K..Pekhova, T.G. and M.Sh.Yufa, V.S.Chekmasov and other Karelian artists.
Worth seeing is the collection of works, dedicated to Karelian-Finnish epos "Kalevala". Unique collection of folk art of Russians from Pomorye and Zaonezhye, Karelians, Vepssians is full and diverse. Available are some exhibits by Western artists, ancient casts. There is a library in the museum with good book selection on the fine arts. The museum constantly organizes exhibitions in the republic, in Russia and abroad (in Finland , Sweden , Germany , France , Japan ) and offers exhibitions on these topics:
